Making Rain: Discovering Truth through Wellness and a Positive Self-Image

Making Rain: Discovering Truth through Wellness and a Positive Self-Image

Best Med Spa | Best Personal Care | Statewide Winner and Best of Central Idaho

Majestic Aesthetics When lightning strikes, it leaves a mark. Some would say it leaves a scar; others crave it and hope to see some part of their life made magic by the touch of a god.

The thing is, we’re all kind of looking for lightning to strike somewhere near us, turning our lives to gold in an instant without burning us to a crisp in the process.

We want it to hit in all the right ways: infusing our careers with promise, blessing our love lives, showering our futures with rainbows. But there’s just no way to predict it or control it. When it happens, like so many other things in nature, it just is.

Laura Matjasich is one of those people who has found a beautiful confluence of passion, career-training, and purpose that strongly resembles a lightning strike.

As a nurse practitioner, she began her career working in ICU medicine and family/internal medicine. Back then, if you’d asked her, she’d have probably told you that was her calling. And very likely it was, for that time in her life.

But a journey begins with a single step, as they say, and seeing where Laura is now, it’s clear that she was being prepared back then to land exactly where she is today.

Empowering Clients to Become Their Best Selves

For nine years, Laura worked in the stressful conditions as a front line, Code Blue Team nurse. It took a toll, and though she was helping people, she sought another way to do that.

Laura first discovered aesthetic medicine in 2011. Rather than the intensity of trauma and the battle between life and death, this field offered the chance to focus on the positive while also helping people.

Eventually, Laura fully embraced the chance to study and work in the field of medical aesthetics.

In this branch of medicine she found that she could offer people the self-image they’d lost to aging, addictions, or other trials along their life journeys. By returning to someone the self-image they’d lost, she also helped them recover their life.

It was as empowering for Laura as it was for her clients.

Find Your Truth, Discover Your Calling

What’s so great about Laura’s story is how in finding something that gave her meaning and used her training and skills, her business has taken off.

Anyone who has been called “an overnight success” knows how deceptive that kind of success is. Those words omit the blood, sweat, and tears. They gloss over the sleepless nights, the struggle over making decisions, the taxing trials of time and effort.

And yet … if you talk to Laura about her path, it’s very clear that her success picked up speed because she was following her passion. She’d found her truth, and she went with it.

For several years she was a one-woman show. She practiced her med spa out of a small room she rented from a chiropractor. Word-of-mouth traveled quickly, spreading until that small room wasn’t big enough to handle the client load.

Majestic Aesthetics & Wellness In 2020, Laura realized she needed a bigger space. And while she was at it, maybe it was time to rebrand. That was when she adopted her company name Majestic Aesthetics and Wellness.

In 2021, she got so busy she had to hire employees to help out. And today, she has a full staff consisting of nine employees. Her reviews reflect just how much her clients love and appreciate her.

It really is about having a light touch and a certain sensitivity when delivering what her clients seek. That takes listening and a level of awareness not all med spas can offer.

“My goal isn’t to make [someone] look like a celebrity, but to help a person feel better about themselves. Everything I do is to help people’s self-confidence. It’s not about being vain or looking like a Kardashian.”
What Laura does is wellness work, rather than simply aesthetic work, and her values are very clear. In addition to how she helps clients on an individual, physical level, she’s also supporting the local community of Twin Falls through education and service. Where once she did global humanitarian work, she has since turned her sights to humanitarian service on a local level.

Laura strives to empower people to feel better about themselves, to take ownership of their sexual health, and to rediscover qualities about themselves that have been lost to time. The strongest evidence that what she’s doing is working is just how quickly Majestic Aesthetics and Wellness has grown.

And Our 2022 Winners Are…

Were you able to join us? Now that the pandemic shutdowns are behind us, we were fortunate enough to celebrate without masks and social distancing at our 2022 Idaho’s Best Business Awards Banquets.

In case you weren’t able to make it, check out our winners list.

Held in the banquets in downtown Boise at Jack’s Urban Meeting Place on the evenings of April 12 and 13, 2022. We took over the top floor and celebrated all who attended. Candidates and their family and employees flew and drove in from all over the state of Idaho.

Candidates were treated like the stars they are with a red carpet photo shoot and a lovely catered dinner from Thomas Cuisine. You should have seen the gowns and tuxedos as the guests were dressed in their best. Some even arrived in limousines!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to change the entertainment at the very last minute. We held an open mic comedy session and more than a dozen brave souls entertained us with their favorite joke. The undisputed star of the show was 14 year old, Bryce Tyler, giving his debut comedic performance to crowds of over 350 people each evening. Bryce is the son of Idaho’s Best founder, Brodie Tyler.

Across both evenings the results of over 140 categories were announced. Regional and statewide winners were welcomed on stage and given a certificate of their award.

Special shoutout to our sponsors for making this year’s Idaho’s Best Business Awards even possible in the first place.

Thank you to Kim Starkey who photographed the banquets for us. The photos can be viewed and downloaded from her site here: https://gallery.kimstarkeyphotography.com/-idahosbestbanquet/gallery

Also, a BIG thank you goes out to Codi and Scott Galloway, Garen Tyler, Valiant Productions, the JUMP staff, and Thomas Cuisine, for all their wonderful help.

Are you a winner?

If so, don’t forget the deadline is April 29th to order your Personalized Engraved Plaques and Magazine Ad or Article. Click here to get your order in.

That’s a wrap!

Voting for our 2022 Idaho’s Best Business Awards is now closed, but we want to thank everyone who participated.

We saw a record turnout, and it wasn’t even close! In fact, we saw a 54% jump in votes over last year.

Way to go Idaho!

Special Thanks To…

Our weekly Hump Day Giveaway was also a hit. We saw a 47% increase in voters who were referred to Idaho’s Best by other voters.

The credit for this can also be shared by our wonderful Hump Day Giveaway sponsors and their generosity:

  • Carstar in Hayden – $300 Shopping Spree to a Local Boutique
  • Hybrid Health in Boise – 5-Pack of Massage Therapy Appointments, a $425 Value
  • Saffron Indian Cuisine in Ketchum – $100 Gift Card to a Local Restaurant

What’s Next?

We have a lot of work ahead of us right now. This includes validating the voting results, identifying the top finalists, and checking to make sure they don’t have a negative BBB grade. (No grade is okay, but a bad one isn’t.)

We’ll be announcing the finalists soon on our website, social media, and through the mail. So, keep an eye out for another announcement coming your way.

Thanks again for all your support!

Voting Now Open for our 2022 Business Awards

Hello Idaho! We’re back for another year of recognizing the best businesses and places in our wonderful state.

If you’re familiar with the Idaho’s Best awards, you may notice that we have improved things yet again. Last year we had nine groups of categories, and 189 in all. With the popularity of Idaho’s Best growing like never before, we expanded to 12 groups and 260 categories!

Here’s just a sampling of the new categories:

  • American Restaurant
  • Auto/Health/Life Insurance Agency
  • Beer/Wine Selection
  • CBD Store
  • Cosmetic Dentist
  • Domestic/Import New Car Dealer
  • European Restaurant
  • Graphic Design
  • Live Music
  • Nonprofit
  • Roofing Company
  • Tacos
  • Wedding & Event Planner

Next Level Categories

We also eliminated direct voting on general categories such as Restaurant, Law Firm, Contractor, etc. We’ll still recognize the best of these categories, however, we’ll take the best of subcategory winners.

For instance, in recognizing the best Asian Restaurant, we’ll take the best performing winner from categories like Chinese Restaurant, Japanese Restaurant, Indian Restaurant, Thai Restaurant, etc.

Who Selected Our Nominees?

Ultimately our nominees were selected by Idaho residents. The determining factors were the nominations received in December and the candidates’ Google reviews throughout the previous year.

With the expansion of our categories this year, approximately an additional 1,000 nominees are able to participate in these Idaho’s Best Business Awards.

Now, Idaho residents can show their support again by voting for their favorite candidates online. Voting is open from February 7-24, 2022.

Hump Day Giveaway!

Back by popular demand is our Hump Day Giveaway where we hold a weekly voting contest and announce a new winner each Wednesday. For every new voter you refer after registering your own ballot, you’ll be entered into a weekly drawing for a nice prize. We’ll have new prize every week, and we’re getting started with a bang!

First up is a Free Shopping Spree sponsored by CARSTAR Hayden. Valued at $300.00, the winner will be able to spend it all at a local clothing boutique or franchise. Thank you CARSTAR Hayden! Find the details on our voting page.

And the Winner Is…

After voting closes on February 24th, we’ll announce the finalists as soon as we have confirmed the results and checked each candidates BBB grade. (No grade is okay, but a bad one is not!) But that’s not where it ends.

In addition to votes, the winner of each category is also determined by their Google reviews from the previous 12 months. Combining the vote total with the review score will give us our winners. We’ll first announce the winners at the Idaho’s Best Awards Banquet in Boise, currently scheduled for the evenings of April 12-13, 2022. Then, we’ll publish the results online and in our Idaho’s Best of 2022 Magazine.

For more details, the latest information can be found on our How It Works and FAQ pages.

Thanks for your support and participation!

Are You a 2022 Nominee?

If you’re on the ballot for Idaho’s Best of 2022, congratulations! As a nominee, you earned your spot by having a good mix of nominations and reviews. Out of tens of thousands of Idaho businesses that were nominated, we narrowed it down to 2,678 nominees that will move on to voting.

So what should you do now? You should claim your nomination.

You may ask, “Why do I need to claim my nomination if I’m already on the ballot?” That’s a fair question and it’s what brings us to the point of this blog.

Claiming Your Nomination Helps Idaho’s Best Verify Your Business Information

You would be shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, if you knew how much effort our team spends checking information to make sure we are as fair and accurate as possible. Besides having the business name and category right, we’re comparing information and addresses across Google, Facebook, Yelp, the BBB, and your websites for all locations in Idaho to make sure that all of your votes and reviews are credited correctly.

But we’re not asking for your pity (we did this to ourselves!), just for your help.

When you claim your nomination, you have the opportunity to help us get it right. You’re able to verify that your business name, location(s), and contact information are correct.

Claiming Your Nomination Establishes a Point of Contact

Some of our nominees are sole proprietors, forging their own path with the unique skills they possess. Others have an empire across Idaho, with dozens or even hundreds of employees in our state. Either way, all of you are important to our community and it would be great if Idaho’s Best knew who to give this award to on behalf of your business.

Idaho’s Best might be the most popular “Best of” awards in Idaho business (OK, it definitely is), and we think we’re pretty awesome, but we aren’t going to assume that you’re automatically going to know the pertinent info for our awards. Claiming your nomination helps us notify the right person when your business is nominated or becomes a finalist.

Claiming Your Nomination Helps Us…and You!

It’s true! Claiming your nomination for Idaho’s Best can make it better. High levels of engagement drive the adjustments we make year-to-year. We do the best we can to compare like with like to achieve a level playing field.

Categories with few nominations and even fewer claimed nominations get less attention. They may be absorbed by another category or disappear altogether.

Categories with a lot of competitors and claimed nominations are likely to get more attention. This doesn’t mean they’re scored differently, but that it’s more likely we’ll add categories that are more narrowly defined, giving every business in that group better odds and a fairer shake.

Claiming your nomination can even give you an edge when you need it. Ties in scoring aren’t frequent, but when they occur the nod goes to a company who claimed their nomination if their opponent did not. Claimed Nomination > Unclaimed Nomination

We Care About Your Privacy

You can see the complete Idaho’s Best privacy policy here. We want you to know that we won’t share any information you provide when you claim your nomination (or make nominations, or vote) with any other party or organization unless you request it. Our email notifications are strictly opt-in and are only used for communications regarding Idaho’s Best so we can let you know about important dates or events.

Nominations Now Open for 2022 Idaho’s Best Business Awards

Well that year was a doozie! Let’s put on our warmest socks, pour a glass of eggnog, and get ready for the best time of the year … the Idaho’s Best™ Business Awards!
[cool sequel image]

“What Makes Idaho’s Best the Best?”

Good question. The Idaho’s Best™ Awards aim to recognize the best businesses in each region of Idaho and the Gem State as a whole. Using a combination of 5-star reviews, online ratings, and votes, we recognize Idaho’s best businesses across nearly 200 categories. You can read more about how the awards work right here.

No one cares about getting it right more than Idaho’s Best™ does, period. We are relentless in our pursuit to find and recognize the best places, companies, and organizations in Idaho. We’re able to find the best (with your help) because we do it differently:

  • No pay to play — participation is free. While we couldn’t do it without our sponsors, they are still held to the same scoring standards as any business in Idaho’s Best™.
  • You choose the nominees and do the voting, not us.
  • Online reviews help determine the winners.

The Reader’s Digest Version

The Idaho’s Best Business Awards (not to be confused with the Idaho’s Best Employer Awards) take place in three stages — nominations, voting, and reputation scoring. We don’t only recognize the best overall, but also the best for each of four regions of Idaho.

Idaho's Best Region Map Central Idaho – Twin Falls, Mountain Home, McCall, Ketchum, Jerome, Burley
Eastern Idaho – Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Driggs, American Falls
Panhandle – Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Moscow, Lewiston, Sandpoint
Treasure Valley – Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Emmett, Payette

Phase 1: Nominations

Anyone who lives in Idaho can nominate a business or organization for Idaho’s Best; you can even nominate yourself! Nominations take place online from December 1- 17, 2022. Remember; the more nominations you get, the better. The top nominees in each region will progress to the voting round.
Participants who nominate 10 or more businesses will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 gift card for any Idaho restaurant of their choice (multiple prizes awarded).

Phase 2: Voting

After the nominees have been determined and notified, it’s time to get out the vote. The voting period is February 1-17, 2022. Any Idaho resident with a mobile phone can cast their vote for as many categories as they like, but only one vote for each category. Voting is done through our website and ballots are secured through SMS verification.

Every Wednesday during the voting period we’ll be giving away great prizes via our “Hump Day Giveaway”. Those who referred other voters via our voting application will be automatically entered to win; every referred voter is an additional entry.

Phase 3: Reputation

The top vote-getters for each category in their region will move on as finalists. We’ll announce this as soon as we can after tallying and confirming votes. Finalists are then scored for their online reputation. Specifically, we’ll capture the previous 12 calendar months of reviews leading up to February 17, 2022.

Announcing the Winners

Once all the data is in, we’ll announce the winners at our Idaho’s Best™ Awards Banquet, which will occur over two nights in April, 2022.
Now let’s kick this party off with some nominations!

Idaho’s Best™ is an awards contest that is owned and operated by Inbound Systems.

US Ecology: The Workhorse Of The Green Movement

US Ecology

What happens to your old batteries when you toss them out? Assuming you attempt to dispose of them properly rather than sending them to the landfill with your regular garbage, you might not actually know their fate.

Many of the products in your home qualify as hazardous waste. The average household generates more than 20 pounds of hazardous waste per year. Products like motor oil, fluorescent light bulbs, and certain electronics should never be tossed into your regular waste bins. In fact, it may even be a crime!

US Ecology

In 2020, Boise Fire responded to a trash trailer fire at Republic Services that was caused by the improper disposal of a lithium-ion battery.

That’s because they have the potential to cause harm to the local environment, poison our water sources, or start fires. So what are you supposed to do with your hazardous waste? Get it into the hands of US Ecology, one of the top waste disposal companies on the globe, headquartered right here in Idaho.

At a glance, most people would guess that US Ecology is a government program that has something to do with the environment. (Or is that just me?) I spoke with Adam Hudgins, their director of talent acquisition (and retired Army veteran), to get set straight.

“We do the hard work that lies behind the face of the green movement.” –Adam Hudgins

With 70 years of experience, US Ecology is the leading environmental solutions provider for treatment, disposal, and recycling of all kinds of waste for government and business entities across the nation. In addition to managing waste, they are a top-tier emergency response service and offer a wide array of field services.

If you don’t know exactly what’s in that glowing toxic sludge you need to dispose of, chemists at US Ecology will figure it out so they can determine how to dispose of it properly. Even if you do know what’s in your hazardous waste, they are going to test it anyway just to be sure, and then use SCIENCE to render it chemically inert (if possible).

US Ecology’s service is comprehensive. Transportation? Whether it’s small lab packs or bulk materials over rail, they can do it. They have significant experience with DOT requirements for radioactive material and transporting difficult waste streams. Documentation? US Ecology loves documentation and will handle all necessary permits, loading and supervision, packaging, manifesting, and tracking.

All Roads Lead to US Ecology

The full scope of what they do cannot be captured in this article. What you should know is that US Ecology does the challenging, complex work that keeps you and me safe while also protecting our environment.

Nearly any industry you can think of encounters waste management or environmental problems that this green movement powerhouse can solve. Most of what US Ecology does involves waste solutions, recycling, and field services.

Waste Solutions

Your household hazardous waste (HHW) may not seem like much, but as a group we generate tens of millions of pounds of HHW every year. If we don’t all do our part to dispose of such waste properly, our beautiful state could quickly lose its natural luster.

US Ecology probably won’t be making home visits to pick up your recycling or used motor oil. But as the leading provider of environmental services for commercial and government industries, the odds are good that the local services that are helping you out will turn over your HHW to the experts at US Ecology.

Household Hazardous Waste

When it comes to your HHW, you have several options to help you dispose of it safely. Even if you can’t take it to a US Ecology site directly, there are plenty of ways to get your HHW safely disposed of.

  1. Take it to a designated HHW collection site for free. For our convenience, these sites are all over the place, though they are usually only open one day per month. Some sites might be limited to certain types of waste, such as heavy metals or prescription medications.
  2. Drop off your hazardous waste at a landfill or transfer station. These will have designated collection areas for various types of HHW.
  3. The Homebound Service assists elderly or physically challenged residents who are unable to transport their HHW to an established collection site and do not have readily available assistance from others. The Homebound Service offers convenient at-home pickup of HHW.

Commercial/Industrial Waste

Just like you, the hardware store needs to safely dispose of unsafe materials such as returned or expired paint. Likewise, your vehicle service stations, pharmacies, and manufacturing plants all have a plethora of products and chemicals they need to address. No matter the scale, US Ecology can handle it all and minimize the footprint left on our environment.

Recycling

US Ecology’s network of facilities and service centers provides recycling services for everything from organic waste to universal waste (like bulbs and batteries), electronics, and more! They are the first and only company in the U.S. offering Aerosol Recycling Technology (ART) for aerosol waste. ART produces recyclable metal and reusable fuels, and it’s landfill-free with zero emissions.

People throw away over $10 billion of precious metals every year as electronic waste. US Ecology’s metals recovery service reclaims valuable metals that otherwise would have hit the landfill.

Field Services

US Ecology does more than help you dispose of dangerous industrial chemicals. Their field services offer safe logistics and response solutions directly where they’re needed, including specialty waste packaging, collection, transportation, and total waste management.

When disaster strikes, governments and businesses around the world call in the cavalry by way of a US Ecology emergency response team. Whether it’s a hurricane, a train derailment, or a deadly disease outbreak, they are the boots on the ground protecting human health and the environment. As I write this, they have 1,100 people in the field cleaning up a burst oil pipeline in California.

Creating a Sustainable Environment

The team of 3,400 professionals at US Ecology is what the military would call “squared away.” They are organized, efficient, and do everything by the book. They can help any industry develop safe and compliant solutions to manage their particular environmental risks.

Most of us might not notice the understated benefits that services like US Ecology provide us every day. Without them, generators of hazardous or industrial wastes couldn’t comply with government regulations and couldn’t operate. More importantly, their work is what allows us to go day-to-day without worrying too much about the impact we have on the environment.

We can all do better, be greener, and make more environmentally friendly choices. While we figure out the little things that we can do, US Ecology is there to handle the big things. They protect us, they protect our wildlife, and they protect our future.

Trust

What do the Chicago Bulls, the New York Yankees, and Tiger Woods have in common? They all dominated their fields with back-to-back-to-back titles. And now we can add Heritage Auto Repair to this list of legendary three-peats (2019–2021).

I wanted to look under the hood to see what makes Heritage special. To that end, I visited the shop, interviewed team members, and read what customers had to say. I found one particular message being conveyed over and over again, the single word that best describes why people love Heritage Auto Repair:

“Trust”

Data from AAA suggests that nearly two-thirds of Americans do not trust auto repair shops. We don’t usually plan to need help with auto repair, but even the best of us can be caught by surprise with a sudden leak, a failed transmission, or running out of blinker fluid. (I’m being told blinker fluid is not a thing.)

When car-tastrophe strikes, it can be incredibly stressful and can upend your life. We become vulnerable when our transportation and livelihood are in the hands of a mechanic — so we REALLY want to be able to rely on the people we trust with our vehicles.

“We have always wanted to do two things: to change the way people view our industry by being THE leader in our industry in integrity, honesty, and trust, and secondly to be a positive influence in our community.” – Rebecca Zanders, Co-owner

Folks trust Heritage Auto Repair with their vehicles. They trust that the Heritage team has the skills and tools to do excellent work. They trust that they’ll receive honest quotes and recommendations, and that the work will be timely and fairly priced. That trust is why Heritage has been named Best Auto Repair Shop three years in a row.

A Culture of Kindness

Kindness is underrated, both as a measure of society and as a business strategy. Our intuitive recognition of empathy and concern can be as important in health care interactions as the treatment itself.

Calling kindness a business strategy is a very cynical approach, but it is an important step to understanding how Advanced Dental Care of Twin Falls is so darned good. Their back-to-back wins as Idaho’s Best Dentist is no fluke. It is a direct result of caring about people first and then providing exceptional treatment. The secret ingredient that sets Advanced Dental Care apart is a culture of kindness that inspires people and generates goodwill.

Idaho's Best dentist Dr. Rencher and Dr. Viegel understand that their team, their patients, and their community all impact one another, so they take special care in nurturing all three groups. Attempt to inspire those around you and treat everyone with kindness. When you are up, help those who are down.

Truthfully, I could compile a long list of positive things they’ve done, acts of kindness toward employees and patients, and ways they’ve served the community. Lacking space to do it justice, instead I’ll cherry-pick something I uncovered talking to team members at the office.

Did you know that oral health can significantly impact expectant mothers? Pregnant women are at higher risk for oral health problems during pregnancy, and those with periodontal (gum) disease may be seven times more likely to have a baby that’s born too early and too small. That’s why expectant mothers receive that extra dose of TLC from ADC. They’ll get the best that modern dentistry has to offer them and that bun in the oven, and the team helps them out with baby books, fudge — and someone over there is even knitting little hats! (Cue audience: “AWWWWWWWW”)

Dr. Rencher, Jodie Rencher, and Dr. Viegal show their love for those around them through their actions. More telling is that their employees, patients, and community love them dearly in return. For them, kindness is not just a hypothetical ideal to strive for — it is what Advanced Dental Care does.
